Assisted Stretching in Maple Ridge

Professional Stretching Done By A Certified Kinesiologist

If you stretch on your own, you are doing important work. Assisted stretching takes it further. A trained practitioner guides your body through deep, targeted stretches that you cannot effectively achieve alone, improving range of motion, reducing tension, and helping your body move the way it is meant to.

At Asana Physiotherapy in Maple Ridge, assisted stretching is performed by a Certified Kinesiologist inside a full physiotherapy clinic. You get the benefit of university-level movement science, hands-on precision, and a complete care team behind you if you need it.

No membership required. No referral needed.

What Happens In An Assisted Stretching Session

Your session starts with a brief conversation about your goals, any areas of tightness or restriction, and how your body has been feeling.

Your Kinesiologist then guides you through a series of hands-on assisted stretches. Depending on the areas we are working on, you may be lying on a treatment table, seated, or standing. Your Kinesiologist moves your limbs, controls joint position, and applies gentle, precise pressure to help the target muscle release.

We use evidence-based techniques, including proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, or PNF. This technique alternates between a gentle contraction and a deeper passive stretch. That sequence signals the nervous system to let go further than it would with static stretching alone, which leads to a more meaningful and longer-lasting improvement in flexibility.

Sessions typically run 30 to 60 minutes depending on your goals and the areas being addressed.

Why Have a Kinesiologist Perform Your Stretching

At Asana Physiotherapy, your stretching is performed by a Certified Kinesiologist. That means a practitioner with a university degree in human kinetics, trained in anatomy, biomechanics, movement assessment, and exercise science.

What that means for you:

Your stretch is assessed, not just performed. We look at how your joints move, where you are restricted, and why.

Your session is adapted to your body, not a generic routine. How we stretch a desk worker with tight hip flexors is different from how we stretch a runner with hamstring restrictions or an older adult working on balance.

You are stretched with clinical awareness. If something feels more than muscular tightness, we can recognize it and, because we work inside a physiotherapy clinic, your Kinesiologist can coordinate directly with our physiotherapists if a closer look is warranted.

This level of training is about precision, safety, and results that carry over into daily life.

Who Benefits

Assisted stretching is not only for athletes.

Office workers and people who sit for long periods often develop chronic tightness in hip flexors, hamstrings, glutes, and the mid-back. Regular guided stretching helps reverse postural patterns that build up over months and years.

Active adults and recreational athletes use it to maintain range of motion, reduce soreness after training, and stay resilient against injury.

Older adults benefit from improved joint mobility, better posture, and easier everyday movement. Maintaining flexibility is key for balance and fall prevention.

People recovering from injury or surgery use it alongside physiotherapy to regain full, comfortable movement in a guided and progressive way.

If you are unsure whether it is right for you, contact us. We are happy to help you decide before you book.

After Your First Session

Most people notice an immediate difference. Tight areas feel looser, movement feels freer, and posture feels easier to maintain. Some people experience mild muscle soreness for a day or two after their first deep session. That is normal and settles quickly.

The effects are cumulative. A single session helps, but a consistent schedule builds lasting improvements in flexibility, comfort, and how your body feels day to day.

FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • Do I need to be flexible to try assisted stretching?

No. Most clients come in because they are not flexible. Flexibility is the outcome, not the requirement.

  • Is assisted stretching painful?

You should feel a deep stretch, not sharp pain. Your Kinesiologist monitors your feedback in real time and adjusts pressure and position throughout.

  • How often should I come?

The number of sessions depends on the nature of your injury, how long you have had it, and your individual response to treatment. Most patients with acute injuries see meaningful improvement within four to six sessions. Chronic or post-surgical conditions may require a longer course of care. Your physiotherapist will give you a realistic estimate after your initial assessment.

  • Is it covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans include Kinesiology coverage. We offer direct billing where available. Contact us or check your benefits provider for your specific coverage.

  • How is this different from stretching at home or in a class?

When you stretch on your own, other muscles work to stabilize you which limits how deeply the target muscle can release. A Kinesiologist removes that limitation by controlling position, monitoring feedback, and applying precise pressure at the right moment.
